#POTM - Of Corset I’ll Call You by Sation

I received this polish in my April Ipsy bag.  Whenever I get a polish in a beauty subscription I like to polish it a day or two before filming my review to see how it wears.  I’d never heard of the Sation brand before.  I was surprised by how much I loved this polish!  It applied beautifully with a slightly translucent finish.  Two coats brought it up to almost opaque.  I rather enjoyed the effect.  The beautiful pink color is bright enough to be noticeable but still looks soft and demure.  Perfect for spring!

#POTM - Molly-Coddled by Butter London

One word basically sums up my feelings about this polish (and the bold caps are intentional): LOVE!  This is the quintessential spring purple and my go-to color in clothes as of late.  This bright lavender varnish applies like a dream.  Two coats yielded a beautiful, opaque, mega-shiny finish.  I am totally smitten!

#PolishHaul - Madison Ave-Hue & In The Cab-Ana by Essie

I picked up a couple of polishes from Essie’s spring releases not too long ago.  Madison Ave-Hue is from the spring collection with the same name.  It’s a pretty bright pink chock full of silver micro glitter.  In The Cab-Ana is from the 2013 Resort Collection.  It’s a beautiful robin’s egg bright blue cream polish.  I can’t wait to try both out this month for fun spring nails!

#POTM - Mimi by Julep (with nail art flower accents in Purity & Pippa by Zoya)

My first experience with Julep polish was a bit of a mixed bag, but mostly a good one.  I ordered this polish during the Sephora Chic Week VIB sale, which gave me a 15% discount on my total purchase.  I had no idea Julep polishes were so pricey!  The sale seemed like the perfect time to try one before I decided on joining the Maven box subscription service.  Mimi is a beautiful almost cream Barbie pink.  I say almost, because it has noticeable iridescence in the bottle, but not so much on the nail.  You can kind of pick it up in direct sunlight if you look super close.

The formula is a bit thick, but not gloppy.  I found it took a bit longer to try than other brands I’ve tried.  It has great color payoff and opacity with just one coat.  I applied two for good measure.  My main issue with this polish was the bubbling.  I actually repainted it to see if it just needed some time to settle after the shipping process.  It was still a bit bubbly on my second try, but less so.  We’ll see if I have the same experience with other Julep polishes, now that I am a Maven subscriber (open box video coming soon on TBBB!).

I tried out my new dotting tools for the first time and followed MissJenFabulous’s tutorial for easy flower nail art.  I picked two of my Zoya shades for daisy accents.  I used Purity for the white petals and Pippa for the yellow center.  Not bad for my first attempt, shaky hands and all!  Of course, some of the flowers vaguely resemble over easy eggs, especially on my right hand, but you gotta start somewhere.  I look forward to trying out more fun designs in the future!

#POTM - Silhouette by Revlon Nail Art Expressionist

I talked about my less than stellar experience with the only other Revlon Nail Art duo I’ve tried so far in my last POTM.  Fortunately, I had much better results with this Expressionist pick in Silhouette.

This dual-sided polish comes with a lovely taupe-beige with an ever so slight shimmer thanks to micro glitter.  The glitter doesn’t show up on the nail, but does lend a nice sheen to this polish.  I found that two coats were all I needed to reach opacity.  It was a smooth and even application as well, which is always a plus.

The nail art side of the duo is a gorgeous metallic taupe-bronze.  The brush for this polish is a nail striper, making it useful for different nail art possibilities.  I’ve only tried nail art once when I used nail pens to draw Minnie Mouse heads on my thumbnails when I ran in the 2012 Disney’s Princess Half Marathon.  Needless to say, I am quite inexperienced and decided to go with the ever accessible polkadot theme for my second ever nail art attempt.  It is far from perfect, but I love the effect, especially with this gorgeous color combination.

I think this duo would be stunning with a french nail look.  I love the formula of both polishes and can see myself traveling with this easy and fun neutral option in the future.

#POTM - Eclipse by Revlon Nail Art Mood Candy

Before I say anything about this polish, I would first like to apologize for the subpar photos and horrendous application.  This polish didn’t work for me in so many ways!  I was so disappointed, because I like the concept of a dual-ended polish.  The dark purple base, although easy to apply, oxidized to a deep brownish purple once dry, looking almost black in certain lights.  I was hoping for the more dusty eggplant color in the bottle.  Applying the iridescent glitter shards suspended in a pink jelly base did brighten the purple up a tiny bit, but I found this top coat to be a real challenge to apply.  The glitter bits did not apply smoothly to the nail, creating little snag-like areas even when I applied an additional top coat.  I only ended up wearing this polish for a day because I was so disappointed with it.  I’m hoping to have better luck with the other Revlon Nail Art duo I picked up in my latest Polish Haul.

#PolishHaul - Silhouette by Revlon Nail Art Expressionist and Eclipse by Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy

I’ve been eying these polish duos by Revlon for a long time now, but it wasn’t until I saw them on sale last week at Target that i decided to give them a try.  There are three options in the Revlon Nail Art Line: Expressionist, Moon Candy, and Neon.  Each type comes with two polishes attached together by their brushes at the center.

I bought one of the Moon Candy options in Eclipse, which includes a deep eggplant creme to use as the base with iridescent flakie style glitters suspended in a pink jelly-like base to use as a top coat.  I also picked up one of the Expressionist duos in Silhouette, which includes a lovely neutral beige with micro glitter to use as the base and a gorgeous metallic taupe with a nail art striper type brush for designs.  I’m looking forward to trying these fun polish duos!

#POTM - Vintage Pearl by Mineral Fusion

I’ve been wearing the polish I talked about in yesterday’s Polish Haul for the past four days.  I actually repainted it a couple of days ago, because of some terrible bubbling.  As you can see in the photos, my second attempt still yielded bubbles.  I discovered that the bubbling issue stems from the base coat I used (an old Spa Ritual one I keep out at the Utah house) and not the polish itself.  That’s a good thing, because I can’t stand bubbling but I absolutely adore this polish!

Vintage Pearl is such a gorgeous shade.  The name describes it perfectly.  It’s a lovely pearl with a champagne tone, which gives it that vintage feel.  It runs a bit on the thicker side, but isn’t gloppy by any means.  When working with pearls, it’s important to paint careful, thin coats to avoid a streaky finish.  I used two coats for full opacity.  This is the first time I’ve ever tried a Mineral Fusion polish and I’m quite happy with it.  It’s easy to apply, stays true to the color you see in the bottle, and has great lasting power.  Plus, it’s 4-free, meaning it contains no formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, or camphor, which are four not so nice chemicals.  I hope to pick up another shade or two the next time I’m at the Park City Whole Foods!

#PolishHaul - Vintage Pearl by Mineral Fusion

I was shopping at Whole Foods in Park City (Utah) earlier this week, browsing the beauty aisles for body lotion, when the Mineral Fusion nail polish rack caught my eye.  I’d never heard of this brand of mineral beauty products before and that may be because the company is based out of Denver and hasn’t quite made it to my local Chicagoland Whole Foods yet.  The polishes looked so beautiful I knew I just had to try one, ever the polish freak enthusiast I am.  I picked up this gorgeous pearly light beige for a go-to neutral that’s perfect for formal dress-up occasions, but also doubles as a lovely daytime choice well.

I actually already painted this on my nails (if you watch my MHWL vlogs, then you’ll have seen it), but decided I want to repaint it before I take photos and give my final thoughts due to some minor bubbling on my first attempt.  I think the bubble culprit is a new topcoat that bounced around in a shopping bag and not the polish itself.  I’ll let you know soon!
